Situation
In an effort to give voice to those who have been overlooked, I embarked on a creative venture to create a captivating photography zine. With a focus on unmarginalized groups, my objective was to bring their lives into the spotlight and provide a platform for their stories to be heard. Through the power of photography, I aimed to capture the essence of their experiences, emotions, and daily lives. The zine became a medium through which their narratives could be shared, challenging preconceived notions and fostering empathy among the readers.
Design
While working at the Michigan State University Office of International Students and Scholars, I identified a group of individuals who had been overlooked and were not benefiting from the school's available resources. Being a journalist with a strong interest in marginalized communities, I took the initiative to launch a project focused on documenting the lives of visiting scholars. Through extensive interviews and conversations with 30 visiting scholars, I carefully selected three distinguished female visiting scholars whose stories stood out. With their collaboration, I created photography zine albums that vividly captured and documented their unique journeys and experiences.

In my endeavor to capture the essence of the two elementary school teachers, I undertook a meticulous process of categorizing and arranging their narratives. Through a careful selection of compelling photos, thought-provoking text, and strategically placed shapes, I skillfully crafted a visual tapestry that unveiled the depth of their individual stories. To provide audiences with a more immersive experience, I employed various background colors that symbolized the teachers' distinct personalities and diverse experiences. By interweaving these elements, I aimed to create a captivating portrayal that not only engaged the viewers but also offered them a profound understanding of the teachers' unique journeys.
